Mirpur fire claims life of Air Force member Anannya
Bangladesh Air Force member Ayesha Siddika Anannya has died in a fire at a multi-storey building in Mirpur, Dhaka. News of her death has brought mourning to her hometown in Syedpur, Nilphamari.
Visiting the Nicchu Colony airport eastpara area in Syedpur on Tuesday afternoon, March 10, the atmosphere was heavy with the lamentations of relatives and neighbours. Anannya was the eldest daughter of Abdul Hannan of that area. She was serving as a soldier in the Bangladesh Air Force.
Relatives said she joined the Air Force four years ago. On Monday, when she went to a shopping mall in Mirpur, Dhaka, a sudden fire broke out. Anannya and many others were trapped in the fire. Later, firefighters rescued her in a burnt condition and admitted her to the Burn Unit of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. She died on Monday night while undergoing treatment.
Anannya's uncle Abul Kalam Azad said the family is very poor. After Anannya got the job, the family gained some financial stability. Receiving such news suddenly has shattered us.
He informed that the Air Force authorities first informed Anannya's younger sister about the fire over the phone. Later, the family went to Dhaka and confirmed her death.
Aunt Farida Parvin Bulbuli said, "I loved her like my own child. It was difficult when she left for the job, now losing her like this—how can I accept it?"
Syedpur Upazila Executive Officer Farah Fateha Taklima said communication is being maintained with the family. Necessary measures regarding assistance will be taken after discussing with higher authorities.
