Mirpur robbery foiled; 5 suspects placed on 3-day remand
A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand for each of the five individuals arrested with locally-made weapons and toy pistols while allegedly preparing for a robbery in the capital’s Mirpur area.
On Sunday, Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the remand order after the accused were presented before the court. Detective Branch (DB) Sub-Inspector Mamun, the investigation officer, had sought a five-day remand for each suspect in order to facilitate further investigation. Following the hearing, the court granted three days of remand for each accused.
The individuals taken into custody are identified as Julhas (37), Md. Kamal Howlader (40), Md. Tushar Ahmed (34), Sabuj Mia (35), and Samrat Molla (35).
DB police conducted a raid in front of the Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur on Saturday and arrested the suspects. Law enforcement also seized a Toyota Probox vehicle during the operation.
According to case details, the suspects were allegedly preparing to commit a robbery on the street near the cinema hall. Acting on a tip-off, DB officers launched a surprise raid. As police moved in, the group attempted to flee. Five were arrested on the spot, while two others managed to escape.
Recovered from the scene were a Probox vehicle, a machete (locally known as a ramda), a homemade weapon crafted from a bicycle crankset, an iron rod, two plastic ropes, and two toy pistols.
A case has been filed at the Mirpur Model Police Station against both the arrested individuals and the fugitives in connection with the incident.
