Mirpur-10, Farmgate metro stations resume normal operations after suspicious bags found harmless

The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has confirmed that no explosives or dangerous items were found in the two suspicious bags discovered at Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro rail stations. After thorough checks, operations at both stations have returned to normal.

In a press release sent by the DMP's Media and Public Relations Division on Saturday (August 1), police stated that reports of two suspicious bags were received around 12pm from the Mirpur-10 and Farmgate stations. As a precaution, services at both stations were temporarily suspended, with trains passing through without stopping .

The CTTC Bomb Disposal Unit arrived at the scenes and implemented security protocols. The bag found at Mirpur-10 station was first X-rayed. Upon opening it safely, only a packet of jarda and betel leaf were found inside; no explosives or harmful materials were discovered.

Similarly, the bomb disposal unit examined the suspicious object found beside a pillar at the Farmgate station and found no explosives or dangerous items. Operations at both stations resumed around 1:40pm, and metro rail services are now running as usual.

MRT Police Inspector Md Sohel Chowdhury confirmed that train services have returned to normal and that there is no reason for passengers to panic.

Earlier, commuters spotted a suspicious bag on the second floor of Mirpur-10 station and another abandoned sack beside a pillar on the ground floor of Farmgate station. Metro rail authorities alerted police, who responded quickly, and the bomb disposal unit completed the necessary checks.

DMP urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or activities to law enforcement agencies without delay to ensure public safety.
