Mirpur-10 Metro station resume services after 52-minute bomb scare

Metro rail services at Mirpur-10 station in the Bangladeshi capital were suspended for 52 minutes on Saturday (August 1) after security personnel discovered a suspicious object beneath the station, prompting a bomb scare and a full security response.

Services resumed after specialists from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit determined that the object was not an explosive.

A senior official from the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) said security staff spotted a suspicious bag near the station at 12:58pm, triggering emergency safety protocols.

The station was immediately evacuated, and passengers were moved to safety. During the suspension, metro trains continued operating but passed through Mirpur-10 without stopping.

The CTTC bomb disposal unit later arrived at the scene and examined the object using specialized equipment.

Preliminary inspection found that the suspicious item was not an improvised explosive device (IED) but an ordinary container, officials said.

After security authorities declared the area safe, Mirpur-10 station resumed normal operations at 1:50pm., restoring regular train services.

DMTCL said the incident was handled in accordance with established security procedures and emphasized that passenger safety remained the highest priority.

Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation to determine how the suspicious object came to be left at the site.
