Mirza Fakhrul demands election by February
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for the national election to be held by mid-February next year under the promised interim government. He expressed confidence that “in that election, we will be able to elect a government of the people.”
Speaking optimistically about the future government, Fakhrul stated, “The elected administration will ensure justice for those killed during the July-August political unrest and will restore their dignity. It will also take all necessary steps to establish a democratic state.”
He further announced the formation of a party fund aimed at supporting the families of those who lost their lives in the popular movement.
On Sunday morning, Fakhrul inaugurated a tree-planting program at Chandrima Udyan in Dhaka. The event was a joint initiative between the Nationalist Peasants Party and the ‘We Are BNP Family’ faction.
Highlighting the sacrifices made by students and the general public for the establishment of a free and democratic state, Fakhrul emphasized, “BNP’s goal is to build a truly liberal democratic state. We seek a new Bangladesh—free from corruption, bribery, killings, and torture.”
Despite political differences, he expressed BNP’s vision of forming a ‘rainbow nation’ that embraces all voices in democracy.
Fakhrul also condemned Sheikh Hasina for what he called “genocide” over the past decade and a half, saying, “She can never be forgiven for the atrocities committed in the country during this time, not just during the July mass movement.”
