BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged political leaders to act with caution, warning that mistakes could allow fascists to regain control in the country. “No errors can be allowed because political missteps could plunge the nation into the hands of fascists again. We do not want to see fascism return,” he said.

Speaking as the chief guest at an extended meeting of Sadar Upazila and Ruhia Thana BNP, held at the Thakurgaon District Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Tuesday, Fakhrul emphasized the importance of elections. “The only way to overcome the current crisis is through free and fair elections. The faster the elections happen, the sooner the crisis will end. Democracy has no alternative—democracy itself is the only solution,” he said.

He added that the country’s political and economic future hinges on the upcoming elections. “Only through fair elections can the nation address its political and economic challenges,” he noted.

Fakhrul also highlighted the people’s role in restoring democracy. “After a period of monstrous misrule, democracy has returned through the mass uprising of students and citizens. Many leaders and activists suffered persecution and imprisonment in false cases. Now, we can breathe freely and sleep peacefully at night. I am grateful to all who participated in this movement,” he said.

The meeting was attended by district BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poigam Ali, Sadar Upazila President Abdul Hamid, General Secretary Mahabub Hossain Tuhin, and other party leaders and activists.
