Mirza Faisal Amin, the younger brother of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and General Secretary of the Thakurgaon District BNP, was attacked in Baliadangi upazila in Thakurgaon. Angry BNP activists also vandalized his vehicle during the incident.

The incident occurred around 8:45pm on Saturday at the Samir Uddin Memorial College field.

According to eyewitnesses and party sources, tensions escalated after voting concluded at the conference, held for the first time in nearly eight years. Local party members demanded the results be announced and surrounded Faysal Amin and other leaders for about two hours.

Around 8:45pm, as the results were being announced and Faysal Amin got into his car, some angry participants started throwing chairs and bamboo sticks at him. Video footage shows him hurrying into the car to avoid being hit, but the attackers went on to smash the car.

Police and local administration officials arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, but the attackers had already fled.

Baliadangi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shaukat Ali Sarkar said, “The matter is under investigation.”

Upazila Executive Officer Palash Kumar Debnath said, “Efforts are being made to identify the attackers.”
