Mirza M Hasan made new BIRDEM DG

Professor MKI Quayyum Choudhury has been removed from the position of Director General of BIRDEM General Hospital following demands from doctors. In his place, Dr. Mirza M Hasan Faisal has been appointed as the new Director General by the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh.

Dr. Anarul Islam, a doctor at BIRDEM General Hospital, confirmed the news on Sunday (April 20) afternoon. However, no official notice has been issued yet.

Dr. Anarul Islam said, “Doctors wanted Professor Quayyum Choudhury to resign due to allegations of corruption and other issues. He had been on leave for 32 days. On Sunday, he entered the hospital with some outsiders and sat in his office. Doctors protested against this. They also announced a work stoppage starting Monday, demanding his removal. To handle the situation, the board of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh held an urgent meeting and decided to remove Quayyum Choudhury. At the same time, Dr Mirza Faisal was appointed as the new Director General.”

It is worth mentioning that Professor Quayyum Choudhury had taken charge as Director General of BIRDEM General Hospital in July 2020.
