Miscreants attack house of Mamunur Rashid

Vandalism and theft have been reported at the ancestral home of eminent theater personality and actor Mamunur Rashid in the Palashtali area of Tangail town. Intruders broke the lock on the veranda grille, entered the house and ransacked the contents of cupboards and a wardrobe.

His sister, Afia Khan, filed a written complaint with Tangail Sadar Police Station on Monday (October 12). She said she was in Dhaka when the incident occurred and lodged the complaint after returning to Tangail and seeing the state of the house.

She said the house holds memories of their late parents and contained valuables belonging to the family's nine siblings. They have not yet been able to confirm what is missing, and she said it will take time to verify everything.

Mamunur Rashid said the intruders broke open cupboards and file cabinets and left the belongings in disarray. His late mother used to live in the house, and he learned that a theft had taken place. However, his sisters have not yet been able to identify which items were taken. The extent of the loss will have to be determined by checking the contents of the cupboards against what was stored, the veteran theater figure said.

According to local sources, the incident took place on Saturday (October 10) in the Palashtali area on Mymensingh Road in Tangail town. A few days earlier, before leaving for Dhaka, Afia Khan had asked an acquaintance, Shafiqur Rahman, to look after the house. At around 9 a.m. on Saturday, Shafiqur locked the house and went out. Everything was reportedly normal at that time.

When Shafiqur Rahman returned at around 5 p.m., he found the lock on the veranda grille broken. Inside, he saw various items scattered across the floor of the rooms. Three steel cupboards had been broken open and a wooden wardrobe was left open. Family members' valuables had been kept in the cupboards and other storage units.

Afia Khan filed the written complaint with police on behalf of the owners. Because the list of stolen items has not been finalized, the financial loss is not yet known. An investigation is needed to determine who was involved, what was taken and how much was lost.
