How Brishty's body recovered in Florida
Police have identified the body of Bangladeshi PhD student Nahida Sultana Bristy, two weeks after she went missing in the US state of Florida.
Bristy, a student at the University of South Florida, and Jamil Ahmed Limon, another PhD student at the same university, went missing on April 16. About a week later, police recovered Limon's mutilated body inside a black plastic bag near the Howard Frankland Bridge, reports tampa bay 28.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said the body was dumped as if it were an ordinary garbage bag. Limon's roommate, Hisham Abugarbiah, was arrested as a suspect the same day his body was found.
However, there was no trace of Bristy. Later, police confirmed that he was no longer alive when traces of his blood were found on the suspect's car.
Some local fishermen saw a black polythene while kayaking in the mangrove area on April 26. Upon receiving the information, the police went inside and recovered the dismembered body parts. The condition of the body was so bad that it was not possible to immediately identify the identity, even whether it was a woman or a man.
During the investigation, CCTV footage found a match between the clothes worn by Bristy and the clothes on the recovered body parts. Later, after DNA and dental records tests, the sheriff officially confirmed on April 30 that the recovered body was Bristy's.
Meanwhile, the process of sending the bodies of the two students to Bangladesh has begun. The arrested 26-year-old Abu Gharbeh is currently in jail and the court has not granted him bail. He has been charged with multiple charges, including first-degree murder.
