The body of a seven-year-old girl was recovered from inside a neighbour’s house in Madarganj of Jamalpur, three days after she went missing on her way to school.

The body of Mariam Akter, daughter of Bahadur Ali of Charlotabor area, was recovered buried under soil from a house near her school late Saturday night. She was a first-grade student at Sidhuli Government Primary School.

Snehasish Roy, officer-in-charge (OC) of Madarganj Model Police Station, said, "Mariam went missing three days earlier after leaving for school. Her family searched several places but failed to locate her."

On Saturday night, family members found her body buried inside the house of a neighbour, identified as Jaminur. Police were informed and recovered the body before taking it to the police station.

Police suspect the child was killed and her body concealed inside the house, although the motive and those responsible have yet to be established.

Two people have been detained in connection with the incident, the OC said. An investigation is underway and further legal action will follow.
