Missing child found dead in septic tank in Shariatpur
The body of a young girl, Tayeba, was recovered from a neighbor’s septic tank in Bhedarganj upazila in Shariatpur two days after she went missing, police said.
The grim discovery was made on Friday afternoon in the Chhoyal Kandi area under Sakhipur Police Station. Tayeba, the daughter of Titu Sardar, had been missing since Wednesday. She was a nursery student at the local Darun Nazar Madrasa.
According to police and local sources, Tayeba went out to play on Wednesday afternoon and did not return. After failing to locate her, her family filed a missing person report at the local police station and launched search efforts in nearby areas. Despite these efforts, the child remained unaccounted for.
On Friday morning, relatives and local residents resumed searching. Suspicion arose when they noticed the lid of a septic tank at the house of a neighbor, Mesbahuddin Molla, slightly open. Upon inspection, Tayeba’s body was found, and the police were immediately informed.
Shariatpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Bhedarganj Circle) Soumya Shekhar Pal said, “Following her disappearance, we conducted searches across multiple areas. This afternoon, we were informed that her body had been discovered in a septic tank near her home. Police have been deployed to the scene, and appropriate measures will be taken following investigation.”
