Missing Dhaka university student found dead in Habiganj
Police have recovered the decomposed body of a private university student, who went missing four days ago from Dhaka, from Moulvibazar’s Madhabpur area in Habiganj district.
The deceased, Mohammad Farhad Hossain alias Mahir, 23, was a student of World University’s Uttara campus and a resident of Uttarkhan in the capital.
Family members said Farhad went missing on April 30 after leaving his residence in the evening. A general diary (GD) was later filed with the local police station.
Police said the body was recovered on Tuesday evening from a bush beside the Dhaka–Sylhet highway in Anandapur Union under Madhabpur upazila.
Madhabpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sohail Rana said the recovery was made following information provided by a detained suspect, Md. Mirdul Sarkar. A joint team from Badda Police Station in Dhaka and Madhabpur police later recovered the body.
Preliminary investigation suggests Farhad was taken to an apartment in the Aftabnagar area of Dhaka on the day he went missing, where he was allegedly tortured and killed.
Police suspect the body was transported through Narsingdi and Brahmanbaria before being dumped in Madhabpur on May 1 in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Investigators also believe personal enmity, possibly linked to a romantic dispute, may be behind the killing, though the motive has not been officially confirmed.
The body was sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination and later handed over to the family.
