Missing HSC examinee Mahira rescued from Savar
Mahira Binte Maruf Puly, a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinee from Mirpur Government Bangla College who went missing on the way to her exam, has been rescued by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Savar.
The rescue operation was carried out late Sunday night (June 29), confirmed Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) K.N. Roy Niyoti of RAB-4.
According to RAB, Mahira, a candidate for the 2025 HSC examination, left her home in Dhaka’s Bhatara area around 8:00 AM on Sunday to sit for her exam at Mirpur Government Bangla College. Her exam was scheduled to end by 1:00 PM. However, when she did not return home by the expected time, her family went to the exam center and were informed that she had not appeared for the exam at all.
After an unsuccessful search throughout the day, the family filed a general diary (GD) at Bhatara Police Station under the Gulshan Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. RAB-4 then initiated a shadow investigation and traced her possible location to Savar.
Quoting the victim, RAB officials said that shortly after leaving home, Mahira was approached by an unknown woman who started a conversation. During the exchange, the woman allegedly held a substance near Mahira’s nose, causing her to lose consciousness. When she regained awareness, she found herself confined inside an unfamiliar room.
Based on intelligence, RAB located the house where Mahira was being held. She later managed to escape from the premises, after which a RAB patrol team rescued her from the area.
Mahira was handed over to her family following initial legal procedures.
