Missing Pabna girl found dead from pond behind home
A girl who went missing in Pabna seven days ago was found dead inside a sack in an abandoned pond behind her home on Wednesday morning (September 16).
The body of Mosammat Kamrunnahar Kali, 10, daughter of Kamal Pramanik of Dogachi Kalunia village in Pabna Sadar upazila, was recovered around 7am.
According to locals and family source, Kali went missing on September 9 after returning home from Sripur Bazar with her father. After she failed to return home that evening, family members began searching the area. Her sandals were later found about 200 yards from the house, prompting her father to file a general diary with Pabna Sadar Police Station.
Police launched a search but could not locate her over the following week.
On Tuesday, relatives and local residents held a human chain outside Pabna Press Club and submitted a memorandum to the district administration and police demanding her recovery.
The following morning, locals spotted a sack containing a body in the abandoned pond behind Kali’s house and alerted police.
Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, said, "The body has been recovered after receiving the report. The cause and circumstances of her death were not immediately known."
"An investigation into the matter is under way," he added.
