Missing schoolboy rescued from remote hills in Bandarban

A seventh-grade student who went missing from Matlab Uttar in Chandpur was rescued from a remote hilly area of Bandarban nearly 12 hours later. Police rescued the 13-year-old, Ratul Debnath, from the 12 Mile area under Bandarban Sadar Police Station on Wednesday morning.

Ratul is a seventh-grade student at Chengarchar Government High School. He is the son of Biswajit Chandra Debnath, a goldsmith and jewellery trader at Chengarchar Bazar.

According to police and the family, Ratul went missing after going to school at around 11:30am on September 21. His family members and relatives searched various places but could not locate him. His mobile phone was also found switched off.

Several hours after he went missing, at around 6:15pm that day, a status reading “Miss You Ma” appeared on Ratul’s Facebook page. The discovery heightened the family’s concern. His father later filed a general diary (GD) with Matlab Uttar Police Station.

Taking the matter seriously, police launched a search operation under the direction of Chandpur Superintendent of Police Md. Mizanur Rahman. After analysing various pieces of information, reviewing his possible movements and using information technology, police were able to trace his location.

Based on the location identified, police later conducted an operation in the remote hilly 12 Mile area under Bandarban Sadar Police Station and rescued Ratul.

After completing the necessary legal and institutional procedures, police handed Ratul over to his family.

Chandpur Superintendent of Police Md. Mizanur Rahman said the district police would continue their efforts to ensure public safety and respond swiftly whenever people face danger.
