Missing youth's bullet-hit body found in Meghna

Two days after going missing in a clash and shooting in Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria over dominance and drug control, the body of a youth has been recovered by the naval police from the banks of the Meghna River in Narsingdi.

On Tuesday afternoon, some local farmers found the body in a bush on the riverbank in the Kandapara Zero Point area of ​​Rasulpur village in Narsingdi Sadar upazila. On receiving information, the naval police went to the spot and recovered the body.

The deceased Rifat Hossain, 28, was a resident of Daspara, Thollakandi village in Nabinagar upazila. He is the son of one Mostaq Ahmed. His body was handed over to his family after the autopsy on Wednesday morning. Rifat is survived by his wife and a three-month-old daughter.

According to local sources, Rifat was injured in a shooting incident in Barail Daspara of Salimganj Union of Nabinagar last Sunday. He has been missing since then. A woman named Kanika Rani Das, 35, was also shot in the same incident.

According to the locals, there had been a long-standing dispute between several parties over dominance, control of drug trade and various criminal activities. The clash and shooting incident took place due to that dispute.

The naval police said that multiple bullet and injury marks were found on the recovered body. After the post-mortem, the body was sent to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. Later, the deceased's sister Mukta Begum went to the morgue and identified her brother's body.

Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sujan Chandra Sarkar said that the body of the youth who went missing in Nabinagar was recovered from the riverbank of Karimpur area and sent for autopsy.
