Mitali Express train between Bangladesh and India to resume soon

Efforts have been initiated to resume the Mitali Express train service between Bangladesh and India after a long hiatus. If everything goes well, the operation of this international train between New Jalpaiguri and Dhaka could start very soon.

According to a report by Indian media outlet Zee 24, progress is being made regarding the resumption of the train, and India's Ministry of Railways may take a decision on this shortly.

The report further mentioned that railway officials from both Bangladesh and India recently held a meeting on this matter. Following the meeting, positive progress has been made toward restarting the Mitali Express.

Additionally, railway line safety inspections and necessary technical operations are nearly complete. The official schedule of the train and ticket booking dates might be formally announced within the next few days.

Train services between Bangladesh and India were suspended following the mass uprising in July–August 2024. Since then, international trains, including the Mitali Express, have remained closed.

Meanwhile, India started reissuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi citizens last week. Stakeholders believe that with visa operations returning to normal, the Maitree Express and Bandhan Express train services might also be resumed in phases.

However, the relevant authorities of Bangladesh and India have not yet formally announced a specific date for the resumption of the train service.
