Mob assaults police, frees convict in Jashore
A mob attacked police officers and freed a convicted fugitive during an arrest operation in Keshabpur upazila of Jashore, after a rumour was spread through a mosque loudspeaker.
Police said the incident took place around 1:30am in Hijoldanga village when officers arrested Jahangir Alam from his home. A false announcement was then made from a mosque claiming police had killed him, prompting 50–60 people to gather and attack the officers.
Three police members—Constable Shahidul Islam, SI Asmat Ali, 54, and Constable Habibullah, 30—were injured in the assault.
However, police later rearrested Jahangir Alam from a nearby paddy field around 11:30am on Thursday.
Legal action is underway over the attack and attempted escape.
