The National Citizen Party (NCP) has strongly condemned the mob attack on a shrine and the killing of a religious figure in Kushtia, calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved.

In a statement issued Saturday (April 12), the party described mob violence as a “serious criminal offense,” stressing that sensitive allegations such as blasphemy must be addressed through the courts, not through vigilantism or violence.

The NCP alleged that such incidents are unlikely to occur without local political patronage, citing past cases of shrine vandalism and violence in Rajbari as indicative of political influence.

According to the statement, tensions escalated after a video circulated on social media, ultimately triggering the attack. The party also criticised law enforcement agencies for failing to take preventive action despite prior warning signs.

The NCP further accused authorities of failing to curb “mob culture,” despite assurances from Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, and alleged that some incidents involve elements aligned with the government.

Calling the law and order situation deteriorating, the party urged the government to move beyond political rhetoric and take effective measures to restore public security.
