Mongla Port witness rise in foreign ship arrivals early in 2025
Foreign commercial ship arrivals at Mongla port have increased, with 28 ships docking in the first 10 days of January.
According to a UNB report, two container ships carrying goods from the Rooppur Power Plant docked at Mongla port on Friday (January 10).
As of now, 18 ships are stationed at various points of the port, according to port authorities.
Meanwhile, a press release from the port authority stated that the Bermuda-flagged ship MV Pakanda Antiga, with a draft of 7.5 meters and a length of 142.7 meters, has docked at Jetty No. 7. The ship is carrying 190 TEU containers.
Additionally, the Panama-flagged container ship Marx Dhaka, carrying 207 TEUs, is scheduled to dock at Jetty No. 8. The ship is 186 meters long and has a draft of 7.10 meters.
A Russian-flagged ship, MV Melina, is also moored at Jetty No. 9 of the General Cargo (Machinery) Port at the Rooppur Power Plant.
Deputy Director of Mongla Port, Md. Makruzzaman, stated that the arrival of foreign commercial ships at the port has increased at the start of 2025. Currently, 18 commercial ships are moored at various locations in the port's Pashur Channel. These ships are carrying a range of products, including coal, fertilizers (gypsum, DAP, TSP, and MOP), clinker, LPG, and stone.
The notification also noted that 413 commercial ships arrived at Mongla Port in the first six months of the 2024-2025 financial year, during which 10,386 TEU containers were unloaded.
In the first six months, 5,637 vehicles were imported through 10 vehicle-carrying ships. During this period, a total of 5,284,471 tons of goods were imported and exported via the port, generating a revenue of Tk 2.1 billion for the port authority.
According to the authorities, the arrival of foreign commercial ships at Mongla Port in the 2023-2024 fiscal year increased by 2.30% compared to the 2022-2023 fiscal year. Additionally, cargo handling rose by 9.72%, container ships by 16.78%, and vehicle imports by 13%.
