Over 200 passengers narrowly escape accident in Kaptai Lake

A passenger launch in Kaptai Lake in Rangamati suffered an accident after its bottom was punctured, but more than 200 passengers narrowly escaped.

The incident occurred in the Pagujechuri area of ​​Jurachhari upazila at around 7:45am on Thursday (March 26).

According to local sources, the launch was heading from Jurachhari to Rangamati Sadar with more than 200 passengers. When it hit a tree underwater on the way, the launch's bottom broke open and water started entering inside.

This spread panic among the passengers. However, the driver quickly took the launch to the shore and safely disembarked everyone.

Later, the passengers were taken to their destination by another boat.

Upazila Executive Officer Md. Bayezid Bin Akhand said that there were no casualties in the incident and the launch has also been safely taken to Rangamati.

Biswajit Dey, a lineman for the Launch Owners Association, said the accident occurred due to the boat hitting a tree underwater. Quick action was taken to avert a major accident.
