Analysis of 113 dengue deaths this year shows the majority were due to dengue shock syndrome (DSS), organ failure, or severe complications, according to Health Department.

The Directorate General of Health Services revealed this information in a press conference held at it's conference room on Monday afternoon (September 22).

The Health Department reported 56 deaths from DSS and 36 from severe dengue complications (EDS). Other causes included dengue hemorrhagic syndrome (1), combined DSS and EDS (9), multi-organ failure (5), and cardiac shock (6).

Officials noted that patients who did not receive timely treatment were at highest risk. Over half of the deceased died within 24 hours of hospital admission. The majority of cases involve patients aged 20 to 30.

Health Director Professor Dr. Abu Zafar emphasized early treatment is crucial, as complications like shock, bleeding, and organ failure are difficult to manage once they develop.
