Police have recovered the bodies of a woman and her two children from a rented apartment in the West Bandutia area of Manikganj municipality. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, raising suspicions of a tragic family dispute.

The deceased have been identified as Shekha Akhter, 29, wife of Malaysia-based expatriate Shahin Dewan, their two-year-old daughter Saifa, and 11-year-old Alvi, Shahin’s son from a previous marriage. The family was originally from Harirampur upazila.

According to police and local sources, the family had been living in a second-floor apartment of a building owned by Rahat Salman. On Tuesday morning, a neighbor, Alamgir, went to deliver the electricity bill but received no response. After multiple attempts to reach the family failed, he contacted the national emergency helpline (999).

Police arrived at the scene around 2:00 pm and broke open the door, discovering the three bodies inside.

“Shekha Akhter had rented the apartment just last month. She was Shahin Dewan’s second wife,” said Manikganj Superintendent of Police Yasmin Khatun. “Initial evidence suggests that she consumed poison and also ended the lives of the two children, possibly due to family conflict.”

The bodies have been sent to the Manikganj District Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police are continuing the investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
