Mother and daughter killed as train hits autorickshaw in Sitakunda

A mother and daughter were killed after a CNG-run autorickshaw was hit by a train at a level crossing in Moulvipara, Sitakunda upazila, Chattogram, on Thursday (October 2).

The accident occurred around 2:30pm.

Witnesses said the autorickshaw became stuck on the tracks while crossing. The driver and passengers got off quickly, and as attempts were made to push the vehicle away, a speeding train hit it.

The victims were Maksuda Begum (48) and her daughter Sanjida Akter Chumki (25), residents of Moulvipara and wife and daughter of Badiul Alam. Both were seriously injured and later died in hospital while receiving treatment.

Sitakunda Railway Police Sub-Inspector Ashraf Hossain confirmed the deaths, saying legal procedures are under way.
