Mother, child killed in road crash in Dinajpur

A woman and her 18-month-old child were killed in a road accident in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur while the child's father sustained serious injuries.

The incident took place around 11:30am in front of Sonali Bank in Birampur Municipality on Friday morning (August 15).

The deceased has been identified as Kohinur Begum, 37, a health assistant at Khatta Madhabpara Union Health Center in Hakimpur, and her son Rishat Kaif. They were residents of Dhanghara village.

Her husband, Golam Rabbani, also sustained serious injury in this incident and has been hospitalised.

According to police and eyewitnesses, Kohinur and her husband, Golam Rabbani, were returning home on a motorcycle with their child after visiting relatives. Their motorcycle lost control after being hit by an auto-rickshaw, causing Kohinur and Rishat to fall onto the road. A speeding truck coming from the opposite direction ran over them, killing both on the spot.

Momtazul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Birampur Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating that police recovered the bodies and brought the situation under control.
