Police have recovered the decomposed bodies of a mother and her teenage daughter 21 days after they went missing in Dhaka’s Keraniganj.

The bodies were found night in a flat on the second floor of a five-storey building in the Muktirbagh Diabetic Bazar area of Kalindi Union on Thursday (January 16).

Sub-Inspector Md Rony Chowdhury confirmed the recovery.

The victims were identified as Zobaida Rahman Fatema, 14, and her mother Rokeya Rahman, 32. The bodies were sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

According to the victim’s father, Shaheen Ahmed, Zobaida went to her private tutor MimAkter’s residence on the evening of December 25 for coaching. When she did not return home, Rokeya went out in search of her daughter. Both have been missing since then.

A general diary was filed at Keraniganj Model Police Station on December 26, followed by an abduction case against unidentified persons on January 6.

Police said locals alerted authorities after a foul smell was noticed coming from the tutor’s flat on Thursday night. Officers broke open the door and recovered Rokeya’s body from under a bed and Zobaida’s body from the bathroom ceiling.

M Saiful Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Keraniganj Model Police Station, said, "Preliminary findings suggest a premeditated killing. Four people have been detained for questioning as the investigation continues."
