A woman and her daughter were stabbed to death in an alleged attack stemming from a family dispute in Anwara upazila of Chattogram.

The incident took place around 11:00pm in the Chhenamoti area of Paroikora Union late Saturday night (June 13), according to police and local sources.

The victims were identified as Ini Barua, wife of Sujan Barua, and their daughter Priyonti Barua. Their son, Piyas Barua, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at Anwara Upazila Health Complex.

A five-year-old child was also injured in the incident.

Investigators said a long-standing dispute involving financial transactions and lending-related issues had been ongoing between the victim's family and a relative. Police suspect the attack was linked to that conflict.

According to witnesses, the accused, identified as Tejpriyo Barua, allegedly entered the house armed with a sharp weapon and launched an indiscriminate attack on the mother, daughter and child before fleeing through a rear door.

Neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing screams, but Eni and Priyonti had already succumbed to their injuries. The injured child was rescued and taken to hospital.

Family members said Sujan Barua works as a security guard in Chattogram city and had been involved in a financial dispute with his cousin, Tejpriyo Barua, for some time.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them for autopsy. One relative of the accused has been brought in for questioning, while efforts are underway to arrest the suspect.

Junayet Chowdhury, officer-in-charge (OC) of Anwara Police Station, said, "A woman and her daughter were killed and a child injured in the attack. We have launched an investigation and are conducting raids to arrest those involved.

"Preliminary findings indicate the killings were the result of a family feud," he said.
