Mother, daughters killed as storm-uprooted tree falls onto house in Jamalpur

A mother and her two daughters were killed when a tree collapsed onto their house during a Kalbaishakhi storm at Melandah upazila in Jamalpur.

The incident took place late Sunday night (April 26) in the Daghi area of Nayanagar union.

The deceased were identified as Khuki Begum, wife of late Gani Mondal, and her daughters Farida Akter and Fatema Akter.

Fire service officials said the victims were asleep inside their home when strong winds uprooted several nearby trees, one of which fell directly on the house. The impact caused the roof to collapse, trapping the family underneath, killing them instantly.

Local residents discovered the bodies in the morning.

The upazila administration confirmed the incident and said officials would visit the site for further assessment.

Police said inquest reports of the bodies have been completed and legal procedures are underway, awaiting instructions from the family regarding burial.
