Mother dies on Biman flight, son returns leaving body in Oman

Sanowara Begum (55) of Satkania, Chattogram, died after falling ill on a Biman flight while returning home after performing Umrah. Due to legal complications, her son Ershad had to return to Chattogram alone, leaving his mother's body behind in Oman . The body is currently in Oman, and the process of bringing it back to the country through the Bangladesh embassy is underway.

The incident occurred on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-136, which departed from Jeddah for Chattogram on Tuesday night . Shortly after takeoff, Sanowara fell ill, and the flight made an emergency landing at Muscat Airport in Oman for urgent medical attention. She was declared dead after examination there.

Permission from the Royal Oman Police was required to take the body off the plane. Due to a delay in obtaining permission, the body remained inside the aircraft for an extended period. After the permit was granted, the body was removed, and the necessary formalities were completed. The flight then resumed its journey to Chattogram.

Sanowara Begum was a resident of East Billiyar Para under Chodaha Union in Satkania upazila. She had travelled to Saudi Arabia on July 25 to perform Umrah. After completing her Umrah, she was supposed to stay for a few days with her two sons, Shahed and Ershad.

Locals said she had been unwell since arriving in Saudi Arabia and suffered from various health issues, including diabetes and high blood pressure. There is also uncertainty among locals about whether she was able to complete her Umrah due to her illness.

Flight BG-136 landed at Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport at 2:46pm on Wednesday. The necessary process is underway through the Bangladesh embassy to bring her mother's body back home .
