Mother files case over attempted rape of child
A mother has filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act against a relative for allegedly attempting to rape her seven-year-old daughter in Rajbari Sadar upazila. The case was lodged with Rajbari Sadar Police Station on Tuesday night (June 2).
The accused hails from Kalukhali upazila of the district but had been residing at his in-laws' house in Sadar upazila.
According to the case statement, the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon (the day before Eid). The victim's mother was outside in the courtyard cutting grass for cattle, leaving her daughter alone in the house. Capitalizing on her absence, the accused entered the room, pressed a hand over the child's mouth, and attempted to rape her. Hearing her daughter's screams, the mother rushed to the room, prompting the accused to flee the scene.
The mother stated that she initially tried to keep the matter private following requests from her husband and other family members. However, as her daughter's physical health began to deteriorate daily, she felt compelled to seek legal action and filed the case on Tuesday evening.
Confirming the matter, Uttam Kumar Ghosh, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajbari Sadar Police Station, stated that police are conducting drives to arrest the accused based on the ongoing investigation on Wednesday morning.
