Mother gives birth at polling centre, names daughter 'Khaleda Zia'

A housewife gave birth to a baby girl at a polling centre while arriving to cast her vote on the day of the 13th national parliamentary election. Following the family's decision, the newborn was named 'Khaleda Zia'. The incident has created a festive atmosphere in the Raiganj area of Sirajganj.

On Sunday afternoon, Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Aminul Islam greeted the mother, Ambia Khatun, and the newborn baby with floral tributes. Raiganj Upazila Executive Officer Md Khalek Patowary, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Masud Rana and officials of the district administration were present at the time.

The Deputy Commissioner handed over a bound birth certificate, necessary items for the newborn and cash to Ambia Khatun. The child's name was recorded as 'Khaleda' in the birth certificate.

Ambia Khatun gave birth at the Bengnai Government Primary School polling centre in Pangashi union of Raiganj upazila on Thursday morning. Later, family and relatives named the newborn 'Begum Khaleda Zia'. Both mother and child are currently in good health.
