Mother, infant daughter die from electrocution in Magura

A woman and her seven-month-old daughter were electrocuted while cooking rice at their home in Magura Sadar upazila on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Setu Khatun, 30, and her daughter Anisha, residents of Tilla village under Moghi union.

Md Ripon Biswas, brother-in-law of Setu’s husband Awal Mollah, said the incident occurred around 8am when Setu came into contact with a live electric wire while using a rice cooker. She collapsed to the ground with Anisha in her arms.

Dr Omar Faruk of the hospital’s emergency department said both were taken to Magura Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

Officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar Police Station Md Ayub Ali said, “According to the family, the electrocution happened while cooking with a rice cooker. We are investigating the matter.”
