Mother, son killed after being hit by train in dense fog in Bogura

A mother and her son were killed after being struck by a train in Sonatala upazila of Bogura amid dense fog. The accident occurred around 9:30am on Sunday, December 28, in the Chhoygharia area of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Rani Begum, 30, of Doail village in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha, and her son Arafat, 9.

The incident was confirmed by Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Santahar Railway Police Station.

Police said the mother and son were walking beside the railway tracks in heavy fog in the morning when they were hit by the Santahar–Lalmonirhat-bound Padmarag train, killing them on the spot. It is suspected that they failed to see the approaching train due to the dense fog.

After completion of legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to their family members, the OC said.

He also urged people to remain extra cautious while moving near railway tracks during winter, warning that even minor negligence can lead to fatal accidents.
