Mother, son killed in bus accident on Dhaka-Sylhet highway

A tragic accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway has claimed the lives of a mother and her young son. The incident occurred Wednesday morning around 11:30am in Dewpara area of Nabiganj Upazila, Habiganj.

According to reports, a passenger bus operated by Saudia Paribahan, heading towards Sylhet, collided with a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw. The collision resulted in the immediate death of Shamima Akter, 45, and her 4-year-old son, Toki Ahmed. The victims were residents of Sagordighi village in Baniachong Upazila.

Following the crash, local residents blocked the highway to protest and detained the bus involved. Sherpur Highway Police arrived promptly, brought the situation under control, and seized the bus.

Officer-in-Charge Abu Taher Dewan confirmed that the bus is now in police custody. The bodies remain with the police and will be handed over to the family after the completion of legal formalities.
