Mother, son killed in Lakshmipur bus crash

A mother and her son were killed in a bus crash on their way to the hospital in Lakshmipur.

Kuwaiti expatriate Sharif Hossain, the deceased's husband, and three others were injured in the accident.

The deceased have been identified as Juthi Akhter and her one-and-a-half-year-old son Siam.

Sadar Hospital's Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Arup Pal and deceased Juthi's father Rahmat Ullah confirmed the matter on Saturday (March 29) morning.

Earlier, late on Friday night, the accident occurred when a Shahi Paribahan bus hit a battery-powered auto-rickshaw from behind in the Kacharibari area of Shakchar union in Sadar upazila.

The others injured are Sharif's nephew Raja Mia and a battery-powered auto-rickshaw driver. However, the driver's name is not known. The injured have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.

Sadar Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Arup Pal said five people were brought to the hospital. One of them died on the way to the hospital. Another died on the way to Dhaka. The injured have been sent to Dhaka.

Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Monnaf said that efforts are underway to arrest the bus driver. Further legal action will be taken regarding the complaint of the family of the woman who died in the incident.
