Mother's body in locked flat, two children were trapped in another room

Police has recovered the body of housewife Israt Jahan, 30, from a locked flat in Jamalpur town. Her two minor children trapped in another room of the same flat have also been rescued alive. No trace of the deceased’s husband Kawser Ahamed Shawon, 35, has been found since the incident.

The incident took place on the fifth floor of a six-storey building in Sheikh’s Vita rail crossing area of the town on Sunday morning (August 23).

Locals said the two children repeatedly asked for water through the window of the flat in the morning. Hearing their cries at that time, people nearby became suspicious. The matter was later informed to emergency service number 999 and police went to the spot.

Police and locals then broke the lock of the flat and entered. The body of Israt Jahan was recovered from one room. Her two children trapped in another room were also rescued alive.

The two children of the deceased Israt Jahan are 10-year-old daughter Sneha and a five-year-old son. Their father Kawser Ahamed Shawon has been missing since the incident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamalpur Police Station Nazmus Sakib said police went to the spot on receiving the information and recovered the body. After preparing the inquest report, the body has been sent to the morgue of Jamalpur General Hospital for autopsy.

He said the cause of Israt Jahan’s death or the mystery behind the incident has not been confirmed yet. Her husband is also untraceable. Efforts are on to investigate the matter and uncover the actual incident.
