Mother-son appears for SSC exam together

A 40-year-old mother and her 15-year-old son are taking the SSC (Vocational) exam at the same exam center in Lalpur Upazila of Natore.

The mother who took the exam is Fuljhari Begum and her son Monirul Islam. Both of them are students of Moharkaya Notunpara Secondary Technical Vocational Institute and are currently taking the exam at Madhubari Dakhil Madrasa Center.

Fuljhari Begum said that she could not continue her studies as she got married at a young age. She spent a long time raising her family and children. However, she returned to her studies later in life.

She said that taking the exam together with her son is a great joy for her. Her childhood dream was to take the SSC exam, and now it has come true.

Her husband Nazrul Islam runs the family by driving a van and working as a daily wage worker. Despite his limited income, he is helping his wife and children continue their studies. Their eldest daughter has already completed her nursing degree and joined the job.

Monirul Islam said, he is happy and proud to be able to take the exam with his mother. He wants his mother to continue her studies and move forward.

Lalpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Julhas Hossain Sourav said, this is an inspiring example in the field of women's education. Age is never a barrier to education—this incident will send a positive message to the society.

He further assured that if necessary, the upazila administration will support Fuljhari Begum in her studies.
