BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has issued a stern warning that the ongoing movement may escalate beyond Nagar Bhaban and onto the streets if any retaliatory actions are taken against protestors or if Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud fails to moderate his remarks.

Speaking at a press conference held at the National Press Club on Wednesday, Ishraque said the temporary suspension of the work stoppage at Nagar Bhaban was aimed solely at restoring essential public services for citizens and should not be seen as a concession or result of government pressure.

"In light of the public inconvenience caused by the ongoing movement, I personally requested that the strike be lifted from Monday to ensure critical services resume. This move was made purely in the public interest and does not indicate any compromise on our demands or submission to government pressure," Ishraq stated.

He alleged that following Eid-ul-Adha, attempts by senior Nagar Bhaban officials to resume regular services were obstructed by orders from the Local Government Adviser and Secretary, who reportedly instructed regional offices to halt the issuance of birth, death, citizenship, and inheritance certificates.

"This was a deliberate attempt to deprive citizens of essential services and falsely blame the protestors," he said. "In response, we resumed operations at Nagar Bhaban and regional offices to serve the public. Our movement continues in symbolic form, in designated areas and times, without disrupting public services."

Ishraque further accused a group of corrupt officials, allegedly close to Adviser Asif Mahmud, of planning and executing an attack on protestors. He singled out Ghulam Kibaria Rubel, who he claimed led the attack and faces serious corruption allegations.

"Although some of these individuals claim BNP affiliations, they hold no official positions within the party," he noted. "Since Asif Mahmud assumed office, Rubel has reportedly become a tool for corruption and has opposed the protestors from the beginning."

Concluding his remarks, Ishraque warned: "I urge Asif Mahmud to show restraint in his statements and avoid disrupting the current calm. But if any vengeful actions are taken against our protestors, the movement will not remain confined to City Hall—it will take to the streets."
