Movement was very planned, nothing happened out of blue: Dr Yunus
Chief advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh Professor Muhammad Yunus has said that the recent student-people movement that ousted the Awami League government had been carried out in a very planned manner; nothing happened out of the blue.
He made the observation in an event organised on the sidelines of the 79th General Assembly session of the United Nations, by former US President Bill Clinton's organisation ‘Clinton Global Initiative’ in New York on Tuesday (September 25).
At that time, the chief advisor introduced his special assistant Mahfuz Alam as the ‘mastermind of the student movement’.
He then introduced his three traveling companions along with Mahfuz.
Appreciating Mahfuz's leadership, the chief adviser said, "Mahfuz is the mastermind behind the mass uprising; although he always says, he did not do it alone, there were many others. However, he is known as the mastermind behind the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.”
Dr Yunus also said, “It (student movement) was very organised. Even people did not know who was leading the movement. So, you can't nab one and say, ‘well, the movement is over’. The way they spoke during the movement will inspire young people all over the world.”
Apart from this, the Nobel laureate urged all those present at the event to support these young leaders in achieving the goal of building a new Bangladesh. He also called for prayers for their success.
Finally, he ended his speech with applause from the audience, including former US President Bill Clinton.
