BNP Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has alleged that Awami League government has damaged the country’s environment through corruption in the name of development.

He made the remarks on Friday (August 22) in Uttara, Dhaka, following a tree-planting programme organised to mark the party’s 47th founding anniversary.

Dr Moyeen Khan criticised coal-based power projects, saying they threaten the biodiversity of the Sundarbans. “No nation can survive by destroying nature,” he said.

Highlighting the growing risks of natural disasters in Bangladesh, he warned that the country could face “complete devastation” if environmental balance is not maintained.

The BNP leader called upon party leaders and activists to join nationwide tree-planting initiatives to help protect the environment.
