MPO-listed teachers to get 5% house rent allowance from November

The Finance Ministry has approved a 5% house rent allowance—minimum Tk 2,000—for teachers and staff of MPO-listed non-government educational institutions.

A circular signed by Deputy Secretary Mariam Mitu was sent to the Education Ministry on Sunday, instructing the administrative ministry to issue an official notification for implementation.

The allowance, effective from November 2025, must later be adjusted with the national pay scale. It will follow existing MPO policies for schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical institutes.

The order also clarifies that recipients will not receive any arrears, and all payments must comply with financial regulations.

Describing the decision as a “preliminary victory,” Professor Delwar Hossain Azizi, member secretary of the MPO Nationalisation Alliance, said it reflects partial success of their ongoing movement.
