Manobadhikar Shongskriti Foundation (MSF) has expressed deep concern over incidents of violence, deaths, politically motivated and enmity-based attacks, violence against women and arson following the election and referendum results in various parts of the country.

The organisation has called for swift and effective measures from the state and responsible conduct from all political parties.

The organisation said over three hundred and fifty political activists, supporters and ordinary citizens have been injured in violence in Bhola, Natore, Kushtia, Narail, Gazipur, Jashore, Barishal, Patuakhali, Netrokona, Cumilla, Chandpur, Feni, Lakshmipur, Faridpur, Jhenaidah, Sherpur, Sirajganj, Rajshahi, Gaibandha, Bogura, Kurigram, Mymensingh, Panchagarh, Narsingdi, Lalmonirhat and Keraniganj in Dhaka. Additionally, multiple political offices and private residences have been attacked and set on fire.

The press release warned that spreading misleading information and videos on social media could further escalate violence. Past experience has shown that in many instances, effective steps were not taken to ensure law and order and public safety in post-election situations. Women, minorities and vulnerable populations have been particularly victimised.

MSF has called upon the government to take swift measures to stop violence, ensure accountability of offenders, and guarantee protection and justice for victims. Additionally, all political parties, conscious civil society and concerned institutions including the Human Rights Commission have been instructed to play appropriate roles.
