Muazzin held over attempting to rape seven-year-old at madrasa in Sadullapur

Police have detained a mosque muazzin in Sadullapur, Gaibandha, on charges of attempting to rape a seven-year-old child at a madrasa. Police acted after the victim's family called the national emergency service 999.

The incident took place on Friday afternoon, June 26, at the Kishamatbagchi Akandpara Jame Mosque's madrasa in Kamarpara union under Sadullapur upazila. Sadullapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Habibul Islam Habib confirmed the matter on Friday night.

The accused, Monir Hossain, 22, is the muazzin of the mosque and the son of Milon Mia of the same area.

According to police and local sources, after the madrasa class ended, other children were sent home, but the accused kept the seven-year-old child behind. He then allegedly attempted to sexually assault the child. Locals detained Monir Hossain after learning of the incident. The child's family called 999, and police took him into custody.

OC Habibul Islam Habib said the accused has been detained over the attempted sexual assault. The victim's family is in the process of filing a case. Legal action will be taken after receiving the complaint.

Police said an investigation is ongoing, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
