Muharram moon sighting meeting this evening
The date of the public holiday for the holy day of Ashura will be announced Thursday evening (June 26), following a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee.
The committee will convene at the conference room of the Islamic Foundation in Baitul Mukarram, with Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain, Adviser to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, presiding over the meeting.
If the moon of the month of Muharram is sighted anywhere in the country, the public is requested to report it immediately to the Islamic Foundation using the following contact numbers, or inform the relevant Deputy Commissioner or Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

The word Ashura is derived from the Arabic word Ashara, meaning "ten." It is observed on the 10th day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The day holds deep religious and historical significance in Islamic tradition.
