Seven of the eight accused have been sent to jail by the court in connection with the brutal beating and stabbing murder of three family members in Koraibari village of Muradnagar, Cumilla. One of the accused, Bachchu Mia, identified as the third suspect, has agreed to confess in court.

On Sunday afternoon (July 6), six of the accused — Batchu Mia, Robiul Awal, Atikur Rahman, Baiz Master, Dulal, and Akash — who were arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Dhaka, were brought before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court-5 in Cumilla by the police. Judge Siddiq Azad rejected their bail applications and ordered them to be sent to jail.

Earlier, on Saturday (July 5) evening, two more accused — Nazimuddin Babul and Shobir Ahmed — who were arrested by the army, were also produced before the court. The magistrate, Mominul Haque, sent them to jail as well.

According to sources involved in the investigation, Bachchu Mia, the third accused, has voluntarily agreed to give a statement under Section 164 in court. The recording of his statement has begun.

The incident took place on July 4 in Koraibari village under Bangrabazar police station, where Rokhsana Begum Ruby, her daughter Jonaki Akter, and son Rasel Mia were beaten and stabbed to death in front of their house over allegations of drug involvement.

Following this, Ruby’s eldest daughter, Rikta Akter, filed a murder case at Bangrabazar police station naming 38 people as accused, along with 25 others unidentified.

After the case was filed, the army and RAB conducted operations and arrested eight people.

Cumilla Court Inspector Sadekur Rahman said, “Eight accused have been produced before the court in two sessions on Saturday and Sunday. The court has sent all of them to jail.”
