Muradnagar triple murder case: 8 placed on 3-day remand

A Cumilla court has granted a three-day remand for eight individuals arrested in connection with the brutal mob killing of a mother, son, and daughter on July 3 at Koribari village under Bangra Bazar Police Station.in Muradnagar upazila.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Muminul Haque passed the order when the eight accused, were produced before the Cumilla Chief Judicial Magistrate Court-11 around 11:30am under tight security, said Court Inspector Sadekur Rahman.

The police had initially requested a seven-day remand for the suspects.

The eight accused are include Md Sabir Ahmed, 48, Md Nazim Uddin Babul, 56, UP member Bachchu Mia, 50, Rabiul Awal, 55, Dulal, 45, Atiqur Rahman, 42, Boys Master, 43, and Akash, 24.

Initially, the case was handled by Bangra Bazar Police, but it was later transferred to the District Detective Branch (DB) for further investigation. DB Sub-Inspector Noyon Kumar Chakraborty is currently leading the probe.

According to the case details, a group of locals allegedly incited mob violence over false accusations of mobile phone theft and drug involvement. They attacked and killed Roksana Akhter Ruby, 55, her son Rasel Mia, 28, and daughter Jonaki Akhter, 22. Another daughter, Ruma Akhter, was critically injured and is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The victims' family filed a case at Bangra Bazar Police Station. The plaintiff, Ruby's daughter Rikta Begum, named 38 individuals—including local UP chairman Shimul Billal and UP member Bachchu Mia—and 25 unidentified persons in the case.

Following the case filing, law enforcement agencies, including the army and RAB, launched a joint operation and arrested the eight suspects.
