Muradnagar triple murder case transferred to DB

The case involving the brutal murder of a mother, her son, and daughter in Muradnagar of Cumilla has been transferred to the District Detective Branch (DB) for further investigation.

Mohammad Abdullah, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cumilla Detective Police, confirmed the matter on Tuesday afternoon (May 8).

He said, “Following the directive of Cumilla Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan, the case documents were handed over to the DB on Monday night (May 7). We are also continuing efforts to arrest the other accused individuals.”

Earlier, on Thursday morning, a violent attack occurred in Koribari village of Muradnagar upazila, reportedly triggered by disputes over drug trade and mobile phone theft. Three members of the same family were killed in the incident — Rokshana Begum Ruby, her daughter Jonaki, and her son Rasel. Another daughter, Ruma Akter, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Rikta Akter, another daughter of the deceased Rokshana, filed a case with Bangra Bazar Police Station naming 38 people and accusing 25 others as unidentified. Local Union Parishad Chairman Shimul Billal has been named as the main accused in the case.

So far, eight people have been arrested in joint drives by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the army. The arrested are: UP member Bacchu Mia, Robiul Awal, Atikur Rahman, Md. Bayez Master, Dulal, Akash, Nazimuddin Babul, and Sabir Ahmed. Police have already applied to the court for their remand. The court may give a decision on this matter today.

Bangra Bazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuzur Rahman stated, “The case has been transferred to the Detective Branch as per the Superintendent of Police's directive. If remand is approved, the DB will proceed with questioning the accused.”
