Mural of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman vandalised at Independence Museum

A mural of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the wall of the Museum of Independence at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka has been vandalised.

Eyewitnesses said on Thursday evening, a protest procession entered Suhrawardy Udyan chanting various anti-Awami League slogans and damaged the part of the mural containing Sheikh Mujib’s image.

An Ansar member on duty near the Udyan told the media that a procession of at least 150 to 200 people advanced towards the structure and after a while, they left the park through the Chhobi Haat gate.

Earlier the same day, a sculpture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the ‘Prerona-71’ square near Chuadanga bus stand in Jhenaidah was also demolished with a bulldozer.
