A murder case has been filed five days after the public shooting of notorious Dhaka gangster Tarik Saif Mamun.

On Saturday (15 November), Mamun’s wife Bilkis Akter Ripa filed the case at Sutrapur Police Station, naming 10–12 unknown individuals as accused.

Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sutrapur Police Station, said the case was filed against unidentified perpetrators. Five people previously arrested by the DB in connection with the shooting were not named, as they were detained in a separate arms case.

"An investigation is underway to identify all those involved," he added.

On 11 November, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s DB arrested five suspects, including the two shooters, Faruk alias Kutta Faruk and Robin, along with Yusuf, Rubel, and Shamim. Two pistols, cash, and the motorcycle used in the murder were recovered.

The killing was reportedly planned by Rony, a top criminal from Kafrul, who supplied weapons and offered BDT 2 lakh. He is currently at large.

Mamun was shot dead on 10 November while returning home from court in Sutrapur. He had survived a previous assassination attempt in Tejgaon two years ago. Mamun and Emon were leaders of the notorious ‘Emon–Mamun’ gangs of Dhaka and were accused in the Sohel Chowdhury and former Army chief Aziz Ahmed’s brother Tipu murder cases.
